Questions:
How does the pad connect to my system?
The Signature Pad plugs into a standard serial or USB port. Most computers will have one or more spare ports for this purpose.
Can I "plug and play"?
Yes - depending on the complexity of the invested solution. With a straightforward Word, Adobe, AutoCAD or Excel solution, the hardware is plugged in, the software installed and the solution is operable. More complicated solutions may require more effort.
What will happen to a document or form if it is modified after the signature has been attached?
The signature will become invalid. It will display and print with a cross through it. Depending on the solution, additional information could be available (copies of the document before and after the amendment, the amendments high-lighted, tracings of the signatures etc).
My signature constantly changes: How will I get it exactly the same every time?
The solutions expect signatures to evolve. Should a signature be exactly the same the solution would query the signature.
What do you mean when you say a signature will become invalid?
There is no single law that governs electronic signatures. There are laws that govern technology, display and signatures. The Legapad adheres to known laws that govern technology, display and signatures.
What does 'hashing' mean?
'Hashing' is an algorithm/formulae used to sew the signature into the content of a document or form and secure it. In addition the signature is also time and date stamped. When the document is altered post hashing the signature, the signature will become invalid.
Will the signature be legally binding?
There is no single law that governs electronic signatures. There are laws that govern technology, display and signatures. The Signature Legapad adheres to known laws that govern technology, display and signatures.
Will my signature be a separate file that can be attached to any document and re-used as required?
It is possible to re-use on-line/electronic signatures as a stamp, exactly as a signature on a rubber stamp. This has NO legal weight and will be obvious as a stamp with no date or validation.
Why would I need an LCD Signature Pad?
In a public customer facing environment (e.g. bank, retail environment), customers account details are private but they need to understand what they're signing. The LCD signature pad can be set-up to display a summary of the form/document whilst the assistant will view the full transaction and account details via their system.
Can my signature be copied and re-used?
Yes - signatures can be copied and re-used, but only as a stamp which has no legal standing or for verification purposes.
What will happen if my electronic signature is rejected?
There are various different alternatives depending on the hosting company. All our customers are running the electronic signature solution in addition to existing procedures. If the signature is queried the attendant can use the traditional process, ask the agreed security questions or request the pin code.
How will this offer me equal or improved security?
An electronic signature cannot remain valid if the document or form it is attached to is altered or edited in any way.
Why does an Electronic Signature offer me better protection against fraud?
Depending on the solution invested in, the electronic signature can carry additional information (protected within the solution) related to the delivery and impact of the signature.
Could my signature end up floating around the Internet?
It is not advisable to sign any document of form - electronically or not - without understanding the implications of that document or form. Electronic signatures must be handled as securely as payment/credit card and traditional signatures.
Why would I need the Legapad model?
Very few signature issues end up in court. Some organisations take the business decision not to go down the Legapad route. Key to this judgment is the nature of the business, other influencing factors; policies to settle out of court and the number of signature issues historically need to be taken into account. Our finance customers would not consider any other solution than that of the Legapad due to its technology and compliance with UK laws.
